ATOMIC BOMB - A PERSONAL PROJECT

Modeled and rendered entirely in LightWave 5.6 with the help of Darkling Simulation's DarkTree Textures, this image shows the familiar mushroom cloud of an atomic bomb blast over a small city.   This image was used as the front cover insert art for Graphic Detail, Inc's.* LightROM volume 6 CD, which contains all the objects and images used to render another form of this simulation out in a desert testing area.

WORMHOLE - A PERSONAL PROJECT

At the time this was created, version 3.0 of Lightwave only provided a single texture per attribute channel (color, luminousity, diffusity, transparency).  Thus, this was an attempt to get as much detail and effect out of these 4 channels as possible using only the built-in procedural (mathematical) textures.  For example, the main vortex has a transparency gradient texture to feather the edge, while a color gradient gives it the blue to purple transistion.  A fractal diffuse texture creates the spiral bands, while a marble texture on the luminousity channel gives it the fine cloud-like detail.   This is an original design of the author based loosely on the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine wormhole concept.
